What are Laos’s main weather seasons?

The year splits into a rainy season (May–October) and a dry season (November–April). The dry season divides into a cool period (November–February) and a hot period (March–April).

  • Cool dry season: sunny days, pleasant 20–30°C range. Light nights in the north. Best for travel.
  • Hot dry season: temperatures can exceed 35°C. Still low rainfall but intense heat.

What is the weather like in Luang Prabang?

Luang Prabang shares the monsoon pattern but sits at a higher elevation, so mornings and evenings are noticeably cooler. The live forecast above gives a general guide, but expect milder conditions than in Vientiane.

  • February–March: warming up, but still dry. Ideal for exploring temples.
